The time depends on the glass and the vehicle. A new windshield also needs its adhesive to set before the vehicle is safe to drive. On one adhesive maker's chart, the wait before driving runs from 3 hours in warm and humid air to 30 hours in cold and dry air. When a stuck power window comes down to a faulty switch, one cost guide notes the switch is usually replaced in short order.

There is no closed season for glass work, but cold weather slows one part of it. Windshield adhesive cures more slowly in cold and dry air, so a winter replacement can mean a longer wait before the car is driven.
