Questions
A Class C motorhome is built on a van or truck chassis with the living area attached to the original cab, so its windshield is the cab's own glass. A Class A has a large windshield in front of a raised driving seat, in a one-piece or two-piece design. The side windows and handles on a Class C cab are the van's or truck's own parts, so they fall under cab window replacement, regulator repair, and door handle repair.
Check the seals around the windows before the coach goes into storage, and again while it sits, as the RV industry's own guides advise. Meltwater and freezing rain can collect in cracked seals and expand when they freeze. Salt Lake City averages 28 nights at or below freezing in January. A cover with UV protection guards against sun damage while the coach is stored.
One-piece or two-piece glass comes first, since with a two-piece windshield sometimes only the broken half is replaced. After that, the price depends on the glass made for that coach, where it has to come from, and the labor to fit glass that size. A driver-assist camera behind the windshield adds another factor, because the vehicle maker may call for it to be recalibrated once the new glass is in.
It depends on the carrier and the policy. Progressive, for one, lists broken glass that is not the result of a collision under its RV comprehensive coverage, usually with the deductible the owner picked. Other insurers sell glass coverage as an add-on. A chip caught early may only need rock chip repair.
If the windshield is set in adhesive, the coach waits until the adhesive is strong enough to drive on, and that time varies with the adhesive and the weather. A car or a semi truck with its windshield set in adhesive waits the same way. Ask us for that time before you drive off.
