On May 25, 2000, more than twenty-six years ago, a small tornado touched down near the Cottonwood Mall at about 6:20 p.m. and blew out the windows of several cars parked at a tire store. Minutes earlier, a 78 mph gust was measured in the city. When a tornado warning sounds, take cover yourself and forget about moving the car.

On average, about 4 to 11 minutes. The Unified Police Holladay Precinct chief told the city council on October 23, 2025, that a crime where the suspects are gone, such as a break-in found later, is a Priority 2 or 3 call. From July through September 2025, response times in the city averaged about 4 minutes for Priority 2 and 10 to 11 minutes for Priority 3. Touch nothing inside the car until the officer has seen it.

Off the street: city code bars parking on any street while it is snowing or snow is on the street, from November through April. Keep an off-street spot ready for every snowfall in those months.

As long as the defroster needs to clear the windshield and windows. Holladay's city code allows the minimum time needed to clear the glass and limits other idling to two minutes on public property and on private property open to the public. The first three offenses bring a warning and no fine. Under the city code, a fourth offense in 12 months costs $160. Drive off as soon as the glass is clear.

Call or send a message with the vehicle and what needs fixing. That is all it takes to get started.
